Wow, it’s Enjoy Music, and we are back after taking a week off, more charged up and ready than ever.
If you’re new, my name is Jamison, I make music and DJ as Teen Daze, and Pacific Coliseum. I am not a music writer, but I do really Enjoy writing about five songs every week, and I hope you Enjoy reading it.
This is wild to get to write this, but we’ve had a nice, healthy uptick in subscribers in the past month or so, and I wanted to just say a Quick, But Earnest, “What’s up!” to all of them.
SO, as previously mentioned, I truly do love providing all of you with a consistent, weekly flow of Hot New Traxx, that are “Guaranteed To Turn Your Mellow BBQ Event Into An Ibiza-esque Beach Rave” (I’m unable to attribute that quote to anyone, but if you say it out loud right now, then it’s real baby). But honestly, I put out a new single last week, and was generally swamped with everything that comes along with that. Not to mention, I’ve got some Serious Projects in the works. I’m talking about multiple releases under my Pacific Coliseum project, one of which is right around the corner.
Anyways, here’s my public apology to any of you who missed me last week. To make it up to you, and the entire Enjoy Music community (shout out to all you subscribers, paid and free alike), I have put together a super-sized, “Summer’s Here Baby” Edition of Enjoy Music. This week, we’ve got SIX tracks for you, plus a new feature called Enjoy Music On The Radio, which we’ll get into a little later.
So, as I just mentioned, Summer’s Here Baby! Today marks the big gear shift from spring to summer, and in honour of that, I’ve got six of the hottest summer scorchers that will make the question of “What’s the song of the summer for 2024” literally impossible to answer. It could be any of these tunes. I mean, sound off in the comments: which of these six summer scorchers is your pick?
Enough goofing off, let’s get into it. It’s Enjoy Music, “Summer’s Here Baby!” Edition. Enjoyyyyyyyyyy.
Magic Words - Wabi Soba (Jex Opolis Remix) (2024)
IT’S MUSIC BABY! Jex makes his thousandth appearance on Enjoy Music, with this Absolute Stomper. But hey, stop the presses please: what the HECK is in the water in Edmonton right now?! Did they change it to coconut water!? First the Oilers make a run at the Cup, now Jex is making a run for Summer Scorcher of The Summer?! This Balearic Bomb drops care of the legendary Razor-N-Tape label, from “The Big Apple”, New York City, USA. I want to hear this track at every single party I go to this summer. I don’t care if I’m in doors, outdoors, in Mordor, doesn’t matter. I want this track following me around from June 21 to September 21. You would have to be lacking a pulse to not Enjoy this one.
Tom Noble - Times Are Changing (2024)
RNT are back baby! They’re 2/2 this week. This one is care of another NYC legend, Tom Noble, who you may know from Superior Elevation, his own productions, or as being one of the most renowned record collector on Planet E. Here he’s in NYC Disco Mode, and baby, I Am Not Mad About It. Keen eyes will notice the B-side on this one too: a Harvey Sutherland remix? Give Razor-N-Tape the Gold Medal now. File this one under Dancefloor Bomb, and Enjoy It!
Total Blue - Corsair (2024)
Okay, we’re switching up the pace a bit with this one. I’ve been dying to post this song since it first dropped a few weeks ago, but the mood has never been quite right. And I know what you’re thinking: is this really a “Song Of The Summer” candidate? Trust me baby, this has got Summer Scorcher written all over it. Allow me to explain: we tend to assume that a “Summer Scorcher” has got to be this upbeat, dancefloor number. But folks: summer ain’t all parties and dancing! Honestly, most of summer is spent in a languid form. This tune is pure Los Angeles to me. Partially, of course, thanks to the members of this supergroup all being from LA. But this feels like 8 AM in LA to me; the 110 is slammed as you try to make your way downtown, but it’s sunny, it’s summer, the AC is on, there’s palm trees somewhere. This tune has the makings of becoming an Enjoy Music Hall Of Fame track. Splashes of Innovative Communication, the slipperiest fretless bass I’ve heard in decades and Benedek’s absolutely dialled in guitar tones. Is this the second coming of Group 87? Only time will tell. In the meantime, Enjoy Total Blue (hands down, best new band name in a very long time).
Flamingo Pier - Deeper Soul (Make A Dance ‘Frogs In Space’ Remix) (2024)
It’s A Balearic Summer Baby! If there is an open-air, poolside, patio DJ set happening around this sweet globe of ours, I want assurance that this tune is playing. How can we track this? Look, if you are a DJ, and you are reading this, and you’re performing in one of these situations, you need to make Sure that you’ve got this one on your sticks. Easygoing, danceable, breezy: Everything The Body Needs. Love to see some Enjoy Music Family in the mix too; monumental shout outs to the Make A Dance boys, who also just put out one of the best 12s of the year, by the way. And hey, shout out Flamingo Pier, who…<looks around sneakily> you’ll be able to see me warm up the dancefloor for in Vancouver next month. Enjoy It Baby!
Eternal Love - La Pantera (2024)
More love to some previous guests, i miei amici, Eternal Love, who are embarking on another insane lineup of summer dates. These guys do not stop. And yet, somehow, they managed to produce this “hands-in-the-air”, party-starter. Equal parts Italo Disco & Dream House, this one is absolute sweetness. Love to see the boys “go full band” on this one too. It’s an absolutely pristine production too, arranged beautifully. Everything about it is just so enjoyable. We love the Eternal Love boys over here at Enjoy Music HQ, and we know you’ll be Enjoying This Tune All Summer Long.
BONUS SIXTH ENJOY MUSIC PICK:
Wallace - Tanzanite (2024)
Okay, so in light of there not being a Bonus Guest Enjoy Choice this week, I thought I’d treat y’all to an extra track. Plus you know, it’s summer, the days are longer, there’s more time to Enjoy! And folks this pick is the definition of last, but certainly not least, because holy s***, this is an absolute Slappers Only. Wallace has been on an insane run of releases over the past few years (not to mention his edits label, Tartan Records), and this new one on Moxie’s On Loop label shows zero signs of slowing down. Once again, we see all the signs of an Enjoy Music Dancefloor Classic. I mean, every time I play a Wallace track out in a set, the response is immediate. I mean, how could you not love the synth part in this tune. This Is Highly Enjoyable Dance Music. Enjoy Wallace!
I’m so thrilled to be introducing a new Enjoy Music Feature, and this one has been cooking for quite a while. It’s…
Enjoy Music On The Radio ~ a collection of radio mixes from across the internet.
[splashy image to come]
That’s right folks, Enjoy Music is now not only your one-stop destination for The Hottest Songs On Substack, but also The Radio Aggregate You Didn’t Realize You Needed. Let me listen through hours and hours of internet radio, so that I can serve you this list, every other week or so.
SO, let’s get to it, here’s five of my favourite mixes from the last little while:
Enjoy Music On The Radio!
M.A.D. Records on The Balamii Club Show (May 20, 2024) (Balamii)
Shout out to all the Enjoy Music Family wrapped up on this one: the MAD crew take over for Ariane V for two hours of rolling house.
Test Pressing (June 1, 2024) (NTS)
The Balearic Boss, Apiento, aka Paul Byrne of Test Pressing (one of my favourite website on the “net”), has had one of the most consistent and highly Enjoyable shows on NTS since I first discovered it ages ago. This latest episode is a treat for its inclusion of the Mad Professor remix of Alex Kassian’s “E2-E4” rework. That tune…
All Styles All Smiles (June 4, 2024) (NTS)
Another one of my favourite NTS shows is All Styles All Smiles, from Anya and Julia. This episode leans more towards daytime house music, and I can speak from experience, it works great as a cooking soundtrack.
Analogue Players Club (Masha Mar with Axel Boman) (June 7, 2024) (Dublab)
Two of my favourite DJs, in one of my favourite studios, in one of my favourite cities in the world. What’s not to love?
Moxie (June 12, 2024) (NTS)
Moxie’s hour on this mix is absolutely stunning, proving once again why she’s a Radio Legend, one of my favourites, and truly one of the best DJs on The Globe. Also, great cooking soundtrack: I dumped an entire Thing of Chipotle Spice onto some cubed potatoes, instead of gently coating them, because I was dancing the entire time I was cooking.
IN TEEN DAZE NEWS: Nothing’s gonna change my love, the second single from my very soon to be announced LP has been out for a week. Endless love and appreciation to any and all of you that have listened to it. Here it is, in case you missed it:
The next single, and the album announcement, is three weeks away. What kooky content will I cook up between then and now? Stay tuned.
Speaking of radio, the eighth episode of my monthly show, Easy Listening, is up in the cloud, and wow, I outdid myself on this one. Two hours of deeply enjoyable, easy-to-listen to music!
Other things to keep an eye out for: SUMMER SHOWS! I’ll be playing in Vancouver, Los Angeles, New York, Montreal and Toronto in the months to come. Only the New York date at Elsewhere has been announced so far, but we’ll be in touch soon.
OKAY, love you all so much, hope you found some sick summer scorchers for your upcoming get-together this week. Raise a large, ice-filled glass, with a perfectly mixed Aperol Spritz in it, in my honour this summer. We’ll see you next week!
